The exciting plans for the development of Portsmouth’s passenger facilities, announced recently, will enable us to increase our commitment to the staff that we regularly employ at the port during the cruise season.

Cruise business at Portsmouth is already growing steadily and our valued agency staff are an important part of that growth through their support in areas such as baggage operations, stevedoring, mooring and cruise parking for passengers.

Portsmouth’s development as a cruise destination for niche and medium-sized ships has seen the numbers of day callers and turnaround visitors grow significantly in the years outside of the pandemic.

Now, with the Covid crisis hopefully abating, we’re all hoping that cruise operations return to 2019 levels. That is certainly the indication this year and it’s good news for staff connected to passenger operations.

We’re extremely grateful to those who have stuck with us during those difficult times and we’re now gearing up activities with the promise of plenty of opportunities over the coming months. The busy 2022 season kicks off in Portsmouth with a series of turnaround calls by Virgin Voyages’ superb new ship Valiant Lady.

She will be one of the biggest ships to call at Portsmouth and her visits will involve some of the biggest turnaround operations seen at the port so we will need considerable numbers of staff to service her.

Swan Hellenic, Noble Caledonia and Fred Olsen Line are among the other operators planning to use Portsmouth for turnaround operations this year. It means lots of regular work for our agency personnel, ensuring that they benefit from considerable earning potential as well as the flexibility of agency work.

With over 60 cruise callers scheduled at Portsmouth this year, it represents a great opportunity for staff who might have left our books when cruise business was suspended, while full training will be given to those who want to join us for the first time.

With national living wage rates also rising in April, joining Pathfinder is a great opportunity for people ranging from students to those who have retired or no longer work full-time.

And it’s not only Portsmouth where we are looking to add staff to our cruise handling teams. Our operations in Southampton, Liverpool and Dover mean that we have opportunities in several parts of the UK for people to take their earnings higher.
