SCH has seen a resurgence in cruise passenger numbers through the port of Southampton this year as the sector gradually recovers from the ravages of the pandemic.
As the company completes its cruise season in the port with the final calls of Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas and Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Silhouette this week, there has been a return towards pre-Covid levels of business.
SCH has supported nearly 250,000 passengers on their transit journeys through Southampton, with ship passenger numbers having increased considerably on 2021 as vessels sail closer to capacity.
SCH Cruise Manager Louis Colpitts explained: “The figures reflect that most ships are carrying twice as many passengers, compared to the restricted numbers that they carried in 2021 because of the pandemic restrictions.”
Although SCH’s total number of cruise ship calls through Southampton was down slightly this year, totals already look promising for 2023 with SCH’s established customers again viewing UK cruise as an important part of their programmes.
Equally, the attraction of Liverpool and Portsmouth as alternative UK embark ports has produced a similar story for the operations of SCH and its sister companies at other locations.
